Periodontics (Gum Treatments)

Periodontitis (known by many as gum disease or pyorrhea) causes permanent, irreversible damage to the bone and the gum tissues surrounding the teeth. If the disease is not arrested, its effects, which include bone loss, gum recession, loose teeth and unsightly spaces between the teeth, will remain. The aim of Periodontal treatment is to prevent further damage. (Gum disease is still the main reason for tooth extraction in adults.)

Endodontics (Root Canal Treatment)

Teeth can be damaged either through infection or physical injury and often this results in the nerve in the centre of the tooth being affected. When this happens the nerve has to be removed from the root-canal of the tooth and this treatment is called Endodontics. The science of root-canal therapy has made many advances over recent years, allowing us to save many teeth that would previously have been lost, and to complement our Endodontist's expertise we have invested in the very latest equipment, including a microscope.

Implants (Replacement Teeth)

For many years, when teeth were lost, the dentist would replace them with false teeth on a denture. For many people this is still an excellent way of replacing missing teeth. However, new techniques have now been developed that enable replacement teeth to be fitted into the jawbone. These structures are called Implants.

Prosthodontics (repair or replacement of teeth and supporting tissues)

Our natural teeth may require restoration or replacement for many reasons. The need to change the appearance or function of our teeth may arise from unsightly discolouration, progressive failure of earlier restorations, the consequences of gum recession and breakdown, physical injury or for developmental reasons. The principal cause of tooth loss in adults is untreated periodontitis (gum disease). Dental Caries (decay) is also a major cause of damage and loss of teeth. The aim of prosthodontic treatment is to provide the optimum restoration or replacement of missing or damaged teeth and maintain the long-term health of the entire dentition. Treatment addresses functional and aesthetic compromises in natural teeth, existing dental restorations and removable prostheses (dentures).
